The man is the Grand Poobah of poster dunks, has his own legendary line of shoes, dominates video games, loves to party, and is one of the most liked athletes of all-time. He’s provided us with some of the most memorable moments and quotes. Now, we present 23 incredible facts about Brooklyn’s own 6-time NBA Champion.

1) Jordan started the trend of the long-length shorts. He claims he wore them that length so he could cover up his North Carolina shorts, which he always wore during his pro career. However, his style caught on, and soon mostly everyone wore their shorts at a longer length.

2) According to CelebrityNetWorth.com Michael Jordan is worth $500 million.

3) Topped “Forbes” magazine’s “The 10 Most Expensive Celebrity Divorces”, with an estimated settlement of $168 million.

4) Jordan was voted in as an All-Star starter by the fans in his rookie season. Controversy arose before the All-Star game when word surfaced that several veteran players, led by Isiah Thomas, were upset by the amount of attention Jordan was receiving. This led to a so called “freeze-out” on Jordan, where players refused to pass him the ball throughout the game.

5) In his first game in Madison Square Garden as a rookie against the New York Knicks, Jordan received a prolonged standing ovation, a rarity for an opposing player.

6) A new rule was invented where a player could take one extra step if he was in the process of shooting, passing, or driving to the hoop. This rule came into effect because Jordan would do this quite often in his career without getting a traveling call.

7) In 1999, he was named the greatest North American athlete of the 20th century by ESPN, and was second to Babe Ruth on the Associated Press’s list of athletes of the century.

8) He fouled out 10 times in his career.

9) An academic study found that Jordan’s first NBA comeback resulted in an increase in the market capitalization of his client firms of more than $1 billion.

10) At the height of his career the Detroit Pistons utilized their “Jordan Rules” method of guarding Jordan, which consisted of double and triple teaming him every time he touched the ball.

11) Jordan has also appeared on the front cover of Sports Illustrated a record 49 times.

12) He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in September 2009, with former Bulls teammates Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Charles Oakley, Ron Harper, Steve Kerr, and Toni Kukoc in attendance.

13) Has a tattoo of the Greek letter ‘Omega’ over his heart, representing Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, of which he is a member.

14) Wore the #23 for his NBA career with the Chicago Bulls, and the Washington Wizards. Sometimes wore the #45 because it was his older brother Larry’s number in high school.

15) Jordan also wore #12. However, he wore it in only one game–in 1990 after an Orlando Magic Arena employee stole his uniform. It was a back-up jersey and did not even feature a last name. He scored 49 points in the game, leading the Bulls win over the Magic.

16) Neither of his parents are more than 5′ 9″ tall.

17) Known as the greatest clutch player in basketball history and won his last NBA championship with a steal and a shot.

18) As a 31-year-old rookie with no professional baseball experience, he drove in 51 runs, stole 30 bases, 6 outfield assists and had 7 game-winning hits. He led the Birmingham Barons with 11 bases-loaded RBI and 25 RBI with runners in scoring position and two outs. With those statistics, he may have been the best clutch hitter on that team.

19) Current Red Sox manager Terry Francona was Jordan’s manager during his time with the Birmingham Barons.

20) On 14 June 1998, Jordan made a shot that won the Chicago Bulls their 6th NBA championship in 8 years. “Jordan Hits the Last Shot” was ranked #2 in TV Guide’s list of the “25 Most Awesome Sports Moments (of the last 15 years)”.

21) His 1992 playoff game against the Portland Trailblazers, where he had 35 first-half points and nailed six three-pointers in a row, has been claimed by many as “the closest anyone has ever come to playing a perfect game of basketball.” Ironically, Jordan was bypassed in the 1984 draft by the Trailblazers, who picked Sam Bowie instead, a move that has gone down in history as one of the biggest draft-day blunders ever.

22) During his record performance of 63 points against the Boston Celtics in the playoffs, Larry Bird claimed that Jordan was “God disguised as Michael Jordan.”.

23) Michael Jordan having ‘retired,’ made $40 million in endorsements in 2010. Jordan makes:
• $178,100 a day, working or not.
• If he sleeps 7 hours a night, he makes $52,000 every night or about what his son spend in one night of partying in Vegas.
• If he goes to see a movie, it’ll cost him $7.00, but he’ll make $18,550 while he’s there.
• If he decides to have a 5-minute egg, he’ll make $618 while boiling it.
• He makes $7,415/hour more than minimum wage.
• If he wanted to save up for a new Acura NSX ($90,000) it would take him a whole 12 hours.
• If someone were to hand him his salary and endorsement money, they would have to do it at the rate of $2.00 every second.
• He’ll probably pay around $200 for a nice round of golf, but will be reimbursed $33,390 for that round.
• He’ll make about $19.60 while watching the 100- meter dash in the Olympics, and about $15,600 during the Boston Marathon .
• This year, he’ll make more than twice as much as all U.S. Past presidents for all of their terms combined.
